apologies for the lack of pretty formatting. will polish once documentation stage is over.

started up a new leafgreen file. girl sprite chosen. visible numbers of my trainer id are 57030.
starter bulbasaur obtained- male, named monsoon. timid nature, initial lv5 stats are 20 hp, 9 atk, 10 def, 12 spatk, 12 spdef, and 11 speed.
the rival battle sucked. had to use the potion from the pc because of a crit... monsoon levelled up to lv6. stat increase +2, +1, +1, +1, +2, +1. rival used a charmander, so monsoon has +1 speed ev obtained. writing these sorts of things out so i can calculate ivs and track out evs as my pokemon level up!
monsoon KO'd a rattata and a pidgey (+1 spe each) and hit lv7. still too low level to properly calc monsoon's ivs, but at least he has leech seed now!
picked up oak's parcel, monsoon KO'd 2 pidgeys on the way back to pallette town. 5 spe evs now. pokedex and 5 pokeballs recieved- it's official, i now have to actually care about my encounters!
1st encounter for route 1: a female lv3 rattata. tackle, 2 failed balls, decided to whittle hp down with leech seed and growl stalling. 3rd ball caught it! named her breezy. hasty nature, and her initial lv3 stats are 14 hp, 9 atk, 7 def, 7 spatk, 8 spdef, and 9 speed. she has guts- veryyyy nice ability, hm.
switch-training breezy and using monsoon to clean up. both get +2 spe evs by the time monsoon hits lv 8. i'm just going to tally the evs ongoing at this point, and have the running total at the bottom of this entry as it's written... +2 spe, breezy lv4. go back to viridian to heal, bought 4 antidotes, 4 pokeballs, 3 potions. going to train more...
well, it happened! breezy got crit by a pidgey while trying to level her up. it was very unexpected. it really sucks... she never even got to hit her stride.
moving on... i wanted to fight the optional(?) rival battle on route 22, so i knew i'd need to nail the next encounters. i caught a male mankey on route 22 and named him downburst. docile nature, vital spirit, and at lv2 he had 13 hp, 8 atk, 6 def, 6 spatk, 7 spdef, and 7 speed. i did some switch training for a while, using monsoon to do the heavy lifting until downburst hit level 9.
i still felt relatively insecure about the rival fight and decided to sneak onto route 2 to get the encounter there as well. i found and caught a male pidgey and named him cyclone. serious nature, keen eye, and his stats at lv3 were 15 hp, 8 atk, 7 def, 7 spatk, 7 spdef, 8 speed. predictably, i also switch trained cyclone to minimize risk as much as possible.
i challenged the rival with monsoon at lv10, downburst at lv9, and cyclone at lv8. no casualties!
i entered viridian forest and caught a lv4 female weedle and named her gate. why gate? not enough name character slots for gate-to-gate. modest nature, shield dust, starting out with 17 hp, 6 atk, 8 def, 7 spatk, 6 spdef, and 9 speed. more switch training, this time including some of the bug catcher trainer battles. gate evolves to kakuna, and i proceed onwards.
i continue on into pewter city gym, entering with monsoon at level 10, downburst at level 11, cyclone at level 10, and gate at level 9. no casualties- having a fighting type and the bulba starter makes brock really free, honestly. finally got my running shoes, too!
gate evolved again while fighting some trainers on route 3. beedrill time ^^
did some more training fighting all the route 3 trainers i could reach! i also caught my route 3 encounter- a lv3 female jigglypuff. her name is whistle (y'know, like whistling wind) and she has a docile nature, cute charm, and she started with 20 hp, 7 atk, 6 def, 8 spatk, 6 spdef, 6 speed. she was also holding an oran berry- convenient! i'll press on into route 4 and double back to pewter for pokemon center heals when needed-- oh wait there's one right by the tunnel, okay!
mt moon's 1st encounter is a female zubat! named her hook echo. lv9, naive nature, inner focus, 26 hp, 14 atk, 13 def, 12 spatk, 11 spdef, 18 speed. time to loiter around the first part of mt moon to grind safely, haha...
managed to get through mt moon and scooped the helix fossil on the way out! kind of tense, still is with how low my powerpoints on moves are right now, eesh... going to teach mega punch to whistle from the tutor. downburst won't get any stab benefit, so i'll pass on teaching him. leaped the ridge into cerulean, healed, then went to the grass to get my route 4 encounter. found and captured a lv8 female spearow now named crosswind. her initial stats are 24 hp, 17 atk, 11 def, 11 spatk, 12 spdef, 18 speed- and she's got keen eye and a docile nature.
unfortunately, cyclone did die due to low-rolling against a different spearow while grinding, giving it the extra move to take him out. farewell... i suppose crosswind came in at just the right time to take up his mantle.
EVs tracked:
- monsoon: 3 hp, 1 atk, 15 def, 36 speed
- breezy (rest in peace): 6 speed
